Our Story
Most parents realize that coding (aka computer programming) is a key to future success in any field, yet quality education is lacking in all but the most affluent neighborhoods. As Yale and Cornell graduates who held executive leadership positions in Fortune 100 companies, have experience starting and growing other companies, and also have young kids of their own, our founders realize the gap in our society today and decided to start this company with the mission of offering quality coding education to kids of all genders and neighborhoods.
Megan Mao - Executive Director
Megan grew up in Los Angeles and understood the key to succeeding in education from a young age, graduating as valedictorian in high school, received full scholarship to Yale University, and graduated with Magna Cum Laude in Economics from Yale. Megan fell in love with programming and teaching early on and taught computer programming while still in college. After college graduation, Megan started a successful career and became one of the youngest executives at Southern California Edison. This experience enables her to understand how coding skills are applied in the real world. While at Edison, Megan obtained her MBA from UCLA Anderson on full scholarship, once again graduated at the top of her class. As her daughters were growing up, she realized that many kids did not have access to the critical education of computer programming, and decided to co-found Koderon to help our next generation succeed.
Ivan Lai - President
Ivan moved to the U.S. from Taiwan at the age of 13 and has a bachelors in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and a masters degree in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering from Cornell University. After graduation, Ivan worked at several consulting and medical device companies, and left his role as Senior Director of Global Supply Chain at Stryker (a Fortune 100 company) after 20 years in the corporate world. Ivan has first-hand experience of how critical coding skills are applied in the business world and wants to apply this experience to prepare children for the future. In addition to corporate leadership, Ivan also serves on the board of LogiMed conference, and started a real estate investment firm in 2009, which is thriving today. Ivan is also the Founder and Managing Partner of ILC Consulting, advising clients on supply chain strategies. The combined start-up and corporate leadership experiences make Ivan uniquely qualified in building a robust and sustaining company that will educate children for years to come. Ivan also obtained his MBA from UCLA Anderson.

We love Koderon! My daughter has been taking 1-on-1 coding lessons for three months, and she can’t stop coding. She gets into the zone and is so proud of the games she has built. It’s so great to see her confidence and excitement when she challenges her friends to play her game.
